Kerry Travels to Kenya, Romania

Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry traveled to Kenya and Romania in early September "to advance shared objectives on climate and clean energy," per the State Department.

In Nairobi, Kenya, Mr. Kerry participated in the Africa Climate Summit, promoting U.S. efforts responding to climate change. Senator Kerry touted President Biden’s Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE) initiative as well as the Energy Transition Accelerator (ETA), two projects aimed at aiding developing nations' responses to climate change.

In Bucharest, Romania, Mr. Kerry attended the Three Seas Summit, focused on relations between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas. The Summit aims to bridge connections in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure across the regions.

Mr. Kerry also promoted innovations in nuclear technology, announcing the first winners of Project Phoenix: Czechia, Poland & Slovakia-- that will receive US support to explore converting coal plants to innovative small modular reactors.

US Export Import bank President Reta Jo Lewis rode along with Mr. Kerry, to "reaffirm EXIM's commitment to strengthening bilateral trade cooperation, specifically financing projects that will bolster energy security & infrastructure connectivity among the #3SeasInitiative participating countries," according to a post.
