Senators Renew Call for Manufacturing Council at Commerce

A bipartisan group of senators have reintroduced the National Manufacturing Advisory Council for the 21st Century Act to establish a National Manufacturing Advisory Council within the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The legislation aims to advance Made in America manufacturing policy and boost economic competitiveness. The proposed council, comprising manufacturers, labor representatives, and academic experts, will serve as a bridge between the manufacturing sector and the federal government to improve communication on their needs.

The Advisory Council will advise Congress annually on how to ensure the U.S. remains the top global destination for investment in manufacturing. Its recommendations will address workforce issues, supply chain interruptions, and other logistical and emerging challenges. The council will meet at least twice a year to advise the Secretary of Commerce on policies and programs that affect manufacturing and propose solutions relating to U.S. manufacturers.

Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Gary Peters (D-MI), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Mike Braun (R-IN) jointly reintroduced the legislation.
