Treasury Meeting with European Allies

Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson will travel to European capitals this week to coordinate the allied response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  

Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson will travel to European capitals this week to coordinate the allied response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Nelson's schedule includes the Munich Security Conference, meetings in Brussels with EU counterparts, and in Paris the Plenary of the Financial Action Task Force.

 While in Europe, Under Secretary Nelson will also share progress on recent Treasury reforms to close loopholes in the U.S. anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regime, including the launch of the national beneficial ownership database, a proposed rule to curb money laundering in residential real estate, and a proposed rule to strengthen anti-money laundering compliance in the investment adviser sector.

In Munich, Under Secretary Nelson will host meetings with official counterparts and participate in an event on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, “Malign State Actors: A Hybrid Challenge to Financial Stability?”

 In Brussels, the Under Secretary will meet with key European Commission and other European counterparts.

In Paris, Under Secretary Nelson will represent Treasury in official meetings at the plenary of the Financial Action Task Force, the international standard-setting body for combatting illicit finance. He will also meet bilaterally with French officials.
